Twin (double) weapons are two mirror-image weapons, one held in each hand. In modern kungfu, the practice of twin weapons balances out the left hand with the right, since many styles have a predetermined dominance.
Twin kungfu weapons are designed "in case," which is a weapon maker's term for two weapons in one scabbard. The handles and guards of both weapons are fitted so that they could sit flush against each other. To make twin weapons requires top level craftsmanship. Not only do you have to make two weapons, you must make them to be exact mirror images of each other. This may sound simple, but in fact, exact fitting is one of the most difficult parts of weapon making. In China, a case of weapons is commonplace for any twin sword with scabbard.
